Ten-time winners China are top-seeded for the TOTAL BWF Sudirman Cup 2017 that will be held in Gold Coast, Australia, from 21 to 28 May.
The 32 participating teams, placed in four groups, were seeded based on the accumulated ranking points of their highest-ranked players/pairs (as on 2 March 2017) in all the five categories. China head the 12 teams of Group 1 with 359,843 points, ahead of second-placed Denmark.
Defending champions China’s (featured image) tally was contributed by Chen Long (Men’s Singles – 68,444); Sun Yu (Women’s Singles – 70,244); Chai Biao/Hong Wei (Men’s Doubles – 66,920); Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan (Women’s Doubles – 71,613) and Zheng Siwei/Chen Qingchen (Mixed Doubles – 82,622).
Denmark, with top-five players/pairs in four of five categories, have 334,544 points. Korea are seeded third with 315,087 points. The other teams in Group 1 are: Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, India, England, Hong Kong and Russia.
Only the top 12 teams placed in Group 1 will compete for the title. Groups 2, 3 and 4 will complete for overall placing.
Germany is top-seeded in Group 2 with 156,839 points, ahead of Singapore (140,819) and Netherlands (127,822). The other five teams in this group are: Australia, Vietnam, Sweden, Spain and USA.
Scotland leads Group 3 with 95,524 points, followed by Canada (83,511) and Austria (72,731). Mexico, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Slovakia and New Caledonia are the other five teams in Group 3.
Group 4 consists of Macau (7410 points), Tahiti (6160), Fiji and Guam.
The draw for the TOTAL BWF Sudirman Cup will be held on Friday 17 March 2017.
The 12 teams of Group 1 will be divided into four sub-groups of three each, while the eight teams of Groups 2 and 3 will be divided into two sub-groups of four each. Group 4 will feature round-robin play, with each team playing the other three teams.
