Canada showcased their all-round prowess as they dismissed USA’s challenge 3-0 in the final of the Pan American Cup 2023.
All three matches were won in straight games. Ty Alexander Lindeman/Josephine Wu got things going with a 33-minute win over Vinson Chiu/Jennie Gai., 22-20 21-16
Brian Yang needed just 24 minutes to make it 2-0 beating Isaac Yang, before Dong Adam/Nyl Yakura sealed the tie 21-18 21-17 against Vinson Chiu/Joshua Yuan.
Earlier, Canada had started out in Group A with Ecuador and El Salvador, while USA were in Group B with Mexico and Argentina. Group C had Brazil, Guatemala and Peru. The top two teams from each group (Canada and Ecuador from Group A; USA and Mexico from Group B, and Brazil and Guatemala from Group C) made the quarterfinals. The top two seeds (Canada and USA) got a bye in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, Canada swept past Mexico 3-0, while USA were stretched by Brazil 3-1.
